Temporary Closure on Southbound Abbot/Chandler Road to Take Place Today
EAST LANSING, Mich. — The southbound lane of Abbot/Chandler Road, between Lake Lansing Road and Coleman Road, will be temporarily closed today, May 7, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The road closure is estimated to take approximately 20 minutes, but could be longer depending on project elements. The East Lansing Police Department will assist with the closure and a detour will be in place. The road will be closed for safety reasons, to allow for the contractor of the Abbot/Chandler Road reconstruction project to unload a 25-ton drainage structure at the site. The road will be re-opened to southbound traffic once the unloading of the structure has been completed. The Abbot/Chandler Road reconstruction project has been ongoing since January 2008. In order to complete the project, the northbound lane of Abbot/Chandler Road has been closed from Lake Lansing Road to Coleman Road since that time. The northbound lane will remain closed until the completion of the project later this year. The project will replace the existing two-lane roadway with a brand new four-lane, two-way road. The project will also introduce a new median, additional turn lanes and eight-foot pedestrian pathways to the area. For more information please contact the Department of Public Works at (517) 337-9459
